ACQUISITIONS

A complete proof set of the LIPS OP TliE VIRGIN by Albrecht Durer
has been acquired by The Cleveland Musem of Art for the D\adley P. Allen
Collection. The printing of the woodcuts is darkly brilliant and at the
same time remarkably uniform, giving them the appearance of a "matched set."

The woodcuts were once in the collection (Lugt 1021) of Priedrich Kalle of
Cologne and Bonn, and have the watermarks High Crown, Bull* s Head with Flower,

Bull's Head with Cross and Flower, and Scales in Circle.

The complete set will be shown in December when the exhibition YEAR
IN REVIEW will present important Museian acquisitions since December, 1958. A
portfolio of reproductions of the series is in preparation, to be available at
the Museum Sales Desk by early November.
